How you play Magic War Legends

Your journey connects exploration, battles and lasting progression:

1. Explore with your hero. Choose a route across a campaign map, reveal unexplored areas and find enemies, resources and treasure.
2. Command your army. Enter a turn-based battle, move your units, select targets and use your hero’s magic.
3. Collect rewards. Earn resources and items that help develop your heroes and units.
4. Prepare for the next challenge. Choose your upgrades, adjust your army and continue into more demanding encounters.

Explore hand-crafted campaign maps

The Android version of Magic War Legends includes 47 hand-crafted campaign maps. Move your hero through fantasy landscapes covered by fog of war. As you explore, you reveal enemy armies, treasure chests, resource locations and buildings to visit. Follow the route toward your objective or take a side path to discover additional encounters and rewards.

Campaign objectives take you across forests, frozen lands, graveyards and other fantasy regions. Defeat enemy forces, reach key locations and conquer fortresses as you uncover each map. Your route determines which challenges you face and which resources you collect along the way.

Fight tactical battles on a hex grid

In campaign battles, you control your units as they take turns to move and attack. Position melee troops to protect ranged attackers, choose which enemies to target and use flying units to reach vulnerable opponents. Turn order, unit abilities and retaliation influence your decisions.

Your hero’s magic adds another layer of tactics. Use spells to damage enemies, strengthen allies, protect troops or weaken a dangerous target. Army composition, positioning, spell timing and the strength of your units all influence the outcome.

Collect heroes and build your army

Heroes lead your forces and shape how your army fights through their abilities and magic. Collect different heroes and choose a leader whose strengths fit the units you want to use.

Build formations from melee, ranged, flying and support units. Consider how their abilities work together, then adjust your lineup for the enemies ahead. Develop your heroes and equip artifacts to support the way you want to play.

Turn exploration and victories into progression

Earn gold, unit fragments, artifacts and other rewards as you explore and complete battles. Use your resources to improve heroes, strengthen units and upgrade spells. Decide where to invest first based on the army you are building and the challenge you want to overcome.

Your growing collection supports further campaign progress and additional challenges in Adventures, dungeons and events. Different encounters give you reasons to develop more than one lineup and try new combinations of heroes, units and magic.

Test your army in Arena

Arena offers asynchronous player-versus-player competition against saved army formations from other players. Combat is resolved automatically, so your decisions focus on selecting heroes and units, arranging your formation and developing combinations that work together.
